The service coordinator from our apartment building looked at me, impressed as I sat back down in my wheelchair and put on my braces and shoes, still laughing with exhilarartion.

"I don't know," I told her, "but I mean to keep doing and trying things until I find out!"

We went to Waterman's Farm today, and I'd just slid down a 20' tall foam and vinyl slide. The challenge was getting up there, barefoot since shoes aren't allowed on the structure, which meant no braces and, as such, no support for my feet and ankles as I climbed. But, I made it. It took me about 10 minutes and a lot of determination. But there wasn't that first grumble of impatience from anyone who waited behind me. So I just dug deep and kept on, using my upper body strength to pull myself up and make up for the lack in my lower body as much as possble. The triumph of that climb was so exhilarating that I think that I might want to try adaptive rock climbing.

After that, we went on a hay ride and picked pumkins. I mean to make a pie or something out of mine. I'll have to... pardon the pun... scare up a recipe to try. And then we went into the market itself and did some shopping before going to McDonald's for lunch.

This is just one of the adventures life has taken me on since I've been here. Yesterday was an adventure of a different sort as a bunch of us went and took food, clothing, and blankets to encampments of people living on the street. That, in it's own way, felt wonderful as well. People were so grateful. And so many were thinking of others, scared to take more than they felt they ought and had to be encouraged.

As I came home after that, I felt so blessed to have what I do have. I felt rich, and grateful. And, if anything, it made today's outing an even richer experience for me because of that new perspective yesterday's adventure gave me.

I keep asking, "How does it get any better than this?"

And each time I ask, I get shown a new way.

I will never forget the time I was supposed to be watching Pat's kids. I went to get you to keep you company too. The Sam took off down the hallway and you went after him, not taking yourself into consideration at all. You went flying Sam went the other way... I was just stunned! LOl That is always what I remember when I think of you.

Awesome! Way to meet life head-on!

A note about the pumpkins: If they are the larger, "jack o'lantern" size, they will likely be more watery and less sweet than pie pumpkins. If you use them for cooking, make sure to set the cooked pulp up in a strainer to drain really well, maybe even overnight.

This is a small pumpkin. :) But I may still take your suggestion to heart. Thanks, Nali!
