First, I reached my initial goal as far as my fundraising for the dog! Thank you to all who donated. I am going to leave the site up the full time, however. Anything raised over and above that is not used for the trip and the equipment will be used for my dog in one form or another, even if it's just a back up fund for an unexpected trip to the vet.

I want to thank all of you who donated to help me in this venture. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it. I will post more on the topic of the fundraising experience itself in a separate post. That itself is proving to show me blessings I've not expected.

Anyhow, late last week I emailed

Anyhow, late last week I emailed <a href="target="_blank"" target="_blank">ADAI</a> and <a href="http://www.abilitycenter.org/" target="_blank">The Ability Center of Greater Toledo</a>, their partner organization, to let them know that I had raised money toward my trip to get my dog and pay for it's equipment.

Yesterday I got a phone call from Jenny at ADAI with a question. Since I have a power chair, would I be willing to train in my power chair and wait until the dog and I were well bonded before trying the manual chair? Her concerns being that they had some "interesting situations" with regard to the force of pull of the dogs on the wheelchair with the double leash system. Wow, that's a big question, especially with how much independence my manual chair has given me. So I decided I would give it some thought.

I prayed, and I meditated, adn slept very little last night as I prayed and meditated some more. And what came to me afterwards was an old question:

<b>"Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now?"</b>

I realized that was exactly the question I had to face! Do I want the right dog for me or the dog that is available right now?

In that light, the answer is obvious, especially since it is a lifetime commitment - well, the dog's lifetime, not mine (God willing).

So I got out of bed and emailed Jenny to let her know: At 2:30 AM. Then went to bed and ruminated about some more things before finally getting to sleep around 4:00 AM.

This morning I got a call from Jenny, who was on the road to an appointment where she was to give a presentation and hadn't read her email yet. So I told her what I had concluded and she said, "Yes, that's what I was calling to talk to you about, that I was thinking along the same lines." She said my anology was spot on as to the question at hand, and agreed that it would be counterintuitive since the goal is to give me more independence, not less. So we will see what the temperaments are of the dogs in the next class and the class after that.

The next class is the first two weeks of August. So, knowing that I will not go to GenCon this year. That will help me save money as well as leaving me free for the opportunity should that be my time to train with my dog.

The class after that is the first two weeks of November. So that would be a fine birthday present if I have to wait til then. My birthday is November 14th.

I am so thrilled with the way this is going. I feel so blessed and grateful.

Thank you all again!
