elfwench: (Coffee!!)
Last night at bed time Magick came out of the bedroom with his head turned at a very disturbingly odd angle. This morning, no change, and even Sophie cat was looking at him, like "Dude, something is definitely wrong with you," and looking at me like, "Can't you help him?" So I checked my account balance, then dressed myself, put him in a cardboard pet carrier, got in my power chair, and off we went to the vet down the street. Surpisingly, he seemed unperturbed by the 4 MPH sometimes bumpy ride.

I, however, was more than a little upset being as my dog, Murphy, died of brain cancer a few years back. And Magick is in his mid teens, so that's old for a cat.

The vet was very nice. All the staff were amazed at how sweet he was, no matter what they did to him. The most he did was to try to scratch his own ear while they were examining and swabbing. Thankfully it turns out to be an ear infection instead of a neuro thing so he'll be fine. And I can't tell you what a relief that is to me.

Thankfully, too, I had the money for the vet bill. I'll have to start saving again for the things I want... the Quickie 2 wheelchair, etc. But at least Magick kitty will be healthy, even if he doesn't appreciate his pills and ear drops right now.

Got home and was really wanting a cup of coffee. However, my coffee maker is also acting sick and not making coffee. Nor is it running water through the clean cycle. (I'm out of vinegar.) Oh, well... it's the one [livejournal.com profile] kyburg sent me several years ago, so I'm grateful it lasted this long.

In lieu of coffee, I may take a nap here in a few.

Great...

Good news... Robert's Short Term Disability paperwork arrived, starting his short term disability on August 14. (which is a week after he disappeared, it was the day he was brought out of the coma ironically.

Bad news... One of the letters enclosed. It is entitled: Re: Insurance Benefits: Non-Eligibility for FMLA

The important part is:
Because you have not been employed with [Company Name] for one year, you are not eligible for FMLA benefits protection at this time. Accordingly your employer subsidized health coverage ended on August 13, 2007. However you may continue your health coverage at your own expense in accordance to COBRA regulations. Upon return from your leave of absence, your employer subsidized benefits will be returned in the same manner and at the same levels as provided when the leave began, without any new qualification period.
I'm going to talk to the Social Worker at the Acute Rehab Center and find out what can be done if anything, have her look at the paperwork and all.

I guess that this is another thing that I have to file in the "It will work out... somehow" bin for today.
